Mumbai, July 14: Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) side obtained the finance and six other Cabinet expansion ministries in the newly formed coalition government in Maharashtra.
The development comes roughly two weeks after Ajit Pawar and eight NCP MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government.
The Ajit Pawar side obtained departments of finance and planning, food and civic supplies, cooperatives, women and child development, agriculture, relief and rehabilitation and medical education as part of the extension of the Cabinet.
Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister, said the list of portfolio distributions has been given to the Governor for approval.
To finalise and submit the list of portfolio distribution, officials from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) arrived to Raj Bhavan, the Governor’s official house, today. The list will be sent to the Chief Secretary for further action after being approved by the Governor.
Aside from the Chief Minister and two Deputy Chief Ministers, the Maharashtra Cabinet now has nine members from the BJP, nine from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and nine from the NCP. It can consist of a maximum of 43 people.
Ajit Pawar, who fought for significant ministries for his party members during his meetings with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has won a significant victory with the NCP being given the lucrative finance portfolio.
