Mumbai, Feb 6: The Maharashtra government on Sunday announced a public holiday on Monday to mourn the death of Lata Mangeshkar.

On the death of great singer Lata Mangeshkar, a two-day “state mourning” will be held. The national flag will be flown at half-mast across India from February 6 to 7, according to a wireless message sent out by the Union Home Ministry to state chief secretaries.

According to reports, the central government has chosen to observe two days of state mourning in honour of the fallen dignitary from February 6 to 7, with no official entertainment scheduled during this time.

On Sunday evening, the funeral of iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar will take place on open ground in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, where her remains will be kept for public viewing. The site is about 100-metre away from Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray’s memorial, on the west side of the Shivaji Park, located in Dadar area.
