New Delhi, Dec 27: The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution regarding the state’s border dispute with Karnataka. The development happens after Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute resolution was introduced by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The resolution intended to use the law to compel Karnataka to admit 865 Marathi-speaking villages.
The Karnataka government’s anti-Marathi stance in the border region was also denounced in the resolution.
According to the resolution, Maharashtra will support the Marathi population in border regions and pursue legal action before the Supreme Court to ensure that these areas are incorporated into Maharashtra.
CM Shinde had stated on Monday that he would move a resolution expressing support for persons residing in the tense border region with Karnataka.
The head of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Uddhav Thackeray, was also criticised by Shinde for visiting the nation’s capital and for his call for the Marathi-speaking regions of Karnataka to be designated as a Union Territory.
“We do not need any lessons from others. We are standing steadfast with those living in the boundary region. We are bringing a resolution into effect in the Assembly tomorrow,” Shinde told reporters on Monday.
The opposition was calling for a resolution to the Maharashtra-Karnataka boundary dispute during the ongoing winter session of the Maharashtra Assembly on Monday when Shinde made his comments. Shinde was in Delhi for the Veer Bal Diwas celebration.
Angrily addressing Thackeray, Shinde added that before making any judgements, he should comprehend the reason for his journey to Delhi.
