Jamshedpur, Jan 3 : A major mishap was averted as the pantograph of Howrah- Barbil Janshatabdi Express which travels via Tatanagar railway station broke near Dongaposhi railway station in West Singhbhum today.
Dongaposhi falls under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway ( SER ).
The pantograph is an apparatus mounted on the roof of an electric train to collect power through contact with an overhead line.
It is used to send electricity to the main transformer of the electric train, thus providing power.
According to Railway officials the pantograph broke as soon as the train was about to reach Dongaposhi railway station. The train which was at a moderate speed came to a grinding halt with a sudden jerk.
Some of the passengers said they were panicked to see their luggages falling down with force from the luggage rake due to the impact of the technical snag.
Railway authorities soon rushed to the spot alongwith electrical staff for repairing the fault. The train got delayed by over one hour due to the repair work.
The train reached Barbil, the destination station one hour late.
Railway officials said the return train for Howrah will also get delayed.
