New Delhi: Major among soldiers killed in J&K encounterIn a tragic incident, four Indian Army soldiers, including a Major, lost their lives during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Monday. The operation was a joint effort by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, initiated based on specific intelligence regarding terrorist presence in the Desa area of Doda.

The encounter began around 9 PM, with a heavy exchange of gunfire ensuing once contact was made with the terrorists. “Initial reports suggest injuries to our bravehearts,” the Army posted on X on Monday night. At least five soldiers were critically injured in the firefight.

This incident marks the second major encounter in the Jammu region in recent weeks. Last week, five soldiers were killed in action in Kathua during a coordinated strike on two trucks transporting at least 12 troops. The terrorists used grenades and armor-piercing bullets, including an M4 assault rifle, to target the trucks, which were about 500 meters apart.

Previously free from terrorism, the Jammu region has seen an alarming spread of terrorist attacks, which initially began in Poonch and Rajouri districts. Over the past 32 months, 48 soldiers have been killed in action in the Jammu region. Reports suggest that more than 60 foreign terrorists, trained in jungle warfare, may be operating in the area, causing widespread fear across all 10 districts of the province.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the Army to employ the full spectrum of its anti-terrorist capabilities to eliminate terrorism in the Jammu region. The increased frequency and intensity of terrorist attacks underscore the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and security in the area.
