Daltonganj, October 31: A Kerala woman observing Chhath Puja has become a cynosure here. People have hailed it as the growing acceptance and expansion of Chhath Puja even in southern states.
The 2017 batch IPS officer Reeshma Ramesan, rural SP Dhanbad; is originally from Kerala and observed Chhath this year. She is the wife of Latehar SP Anjani Anjan, a 2016 batch IPS officer.
Speaking to lagatar24.com SP Anjan said, “Last year my wife Reeshma Ramesan saw my aunt performing Chhath and she was inspired by the religious environment then. This Chhath, she came forward and expressed her wish to perform the puja.”
SP Anjan further said, “Astha (faith) has no borders. Everything becomes too small before faith.”
He added, “I carried the headload or doura’ (basket). I did not fast, but my wife observed the fast.”
The SP further said that he wore a Mundu instead of a dhoti as a token of appreciation for his spouse. He said, “Mundu is a popular garment worn in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.”
