New Delhi, Jan 12: India’s top shuttler HS Prannoy defeated Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo on Thursday to advance into the men’s singles category quarterfinals, at the Malaysia Open 2023.
In the opening BWF World Tour competition of the year, eighth-ranked HS Prannoy upset world No. 19 opponent Wardoyo 21-9, 15-21, 21-16.
HS Prannoy established his supremacy right away, while Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo found it difficult to cope with the drift. The Indian badminton player won the first game, but was unable to withstand Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo’s inside-out strokes and lost the second.
In the decider, both players used crosscourt smashes to try to outsmart one another. Before the third game was over, Prannoy had a five-point lead, and they went on to win the match in 64 minutes.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who won bronze at the CWG, were ousted from the Malaysia Open earlier in the day after falling to Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria in the women’s doubles round of 16.
