New Delhi, June 29: India’s star shuttler PV On Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur achieved a shock victory over Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong, the 10th-ranked player in the world, to move to the second round of the Malaysia Open competition.
Playing on Court 2, Sindhu prevailed in straight games against Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand. Sindhu, the seventh-seeded player, defeated Chochuwong 21-13, 21-17. In the first game, the Indian got out to a strong start and quickly sealed the victory.
Chochuwong fought back in the second game of the match but was unable to withstand Sindhu’s assaults for very long and was eliminated from the competition.
Meanwhile, B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa from India were unable to defeat the Dutch duo of Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek, who are ranked 21 in the world. After a 52-minute fight, the Indian team lost by the scores of 15-21, 21-19, and 17-21.
Saina Nehwal, who won the bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, had a rough day as she lost to American Iris Wang 11-21, 17-21 in 37 minutes.
Earlier, Malaysia Open 2022 first-round opponent Liew Daren of Malaysia was defeated by India’s HS Prannoy.
The Indian won his match on court 1 by scores of 21-14, 17-21, and 21-18. Prannoy won the first game, which was a fantastic start. His Malaysian opponent recovered to take the second game, but Prannoy prevailed by a narrow margin of 21-18 to win the match.
