New Desk, Sept 30: Mallikarjun Kharge, a senior Congress official and the opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha, is likely to run for president of the Congress. According to sources, he would submit his nomination after noon on this day.

Sonia Gandhi, the acting president of the Congress, will make a decision today.

Kharge, along with Digvijaya Singh and Shashi Tharoor, could be the third candidate in the presidential race. Eight-time MLA and twice-elected MP to the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge is a seasoned Congress member.

Dalit leader Mallikarjun Kharge, a veteran of the Congress party, has served as a legislator eight times, twice in the Lok Sabha, and once in the Rajya Sabha.

In addition, Digvijaya Singh and Shashi Tharoor are expected to submit their nominations today as the race for the position of Congress president heats up. The news comes after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot decided not to run for office, leaving the state’s leadership in limbo, with the party announcing that a decision would be made in a day or two.
