Bengaluru: The man accused of the brutal murder of 24-year-old Kriti Kumari, a Bihar native, in a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru’s Koramangala area has been apprehended in Madhya Pradesh. The arrest took place on Saturday, and the suspect is being transported back to Bengaluru for further investigation, as reported by NDTV citing Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand.

CCTV footage of the heinous crime emerged on Friday, revealing the chilling details of the incident that occurred on the night of July 23. According to police reports, the assailant sneaked into the PG and murdered Kriti Kumari.

Commissioner Dayanand assured that the investigation is progressing rapidly, with three dedicated police teams assigned to the case. Police sources disclosed that Kriti Kumari had recently moved into the PG and was staying alone after her roommate left to live with her boyfriend.

The CCTV footage shows the suspect entering the PG corridor holding a polythene bag, knocking on Kriti’s door, and then dragging her out. Despite her resistance, the assailant overpowered her, slit her throat, and fled the scene. The noise alerted other residents, but they were unable to save her.

“Kriti Kumari, 24, hailed from Bihar and worked for a private company in Bengaluru. The murder likely occurred around 11 pm on July 23,” a police officer stated.

Police are meticulously reviewing the CCTV footage and inspecting the crime scene to trace Kriti’s last contacts and reconstruct the events leading to her murder. They revealed that Kriti had moved into the PG just two days before the incident. The suspect, carrying luggage, was allowed entry by PG security after Kriti identified him as her brother who would leave soon.

“The young woman from Bihar, working in the tech industry, was murdered in her PG in Koramangala,” additional commissioner of police Raman Gupta told reporters. Koramangala Police Inspector Nataraj added, “We have registered a case under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. The accused fled immediately after the incident, but efforts to apprehend him have been successful.”

The arrest in Madhya Pradesh marks a significant step in the investigation as authorities continue to uncover the motives behind this tragic crime.
