Gorakhpur: Police have arrested Ajay Kumar Yadav, who allegedly threatened to kill BJP MP and Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan over a phone call. The accused was nabbed within 48 hours by Gorakhpur police with assistance from Ludhiana authorities. Investigation revealed that Ajay, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, had never visited Bihar and made the threat call while intoxicated.
Threat Call Details
On the night of October 30, Ajay Kumar Yadav called Ravi Kishan’s personal secretary, Shivam Dwivedi, and allegedly said, “Ravi Kishan makes comments on Yadavs; he is coming to Bihar in four days, and I’ll shoot him.” The caller also made derogatory remarks about Lord Ram and the Ram Temple. Following the threat, an FIR was filed at the Ramgarh Tal police station.
Arrest and Interrogation
The Cyber Cell traced the number to Ludhiana and, with local police assistance, arrested Ajay Kumar Yadav on November 1. During interrogation, the 32-year-old confessed that he works as a washerman, earning ₹300–400 per day, and had never been to Bihar. He admitted making the call under the influence of alcohol, adding that he mentioned Bihar “just to sound threatening.” Ajay later apologised, saying, “I work for daily wages and have a family — it was a mistake.”
Police Action and Legal Charges
According to SP City Abhinav Tyagi, a case has been registered under IPC Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 507 (anonymous threat), and relevant provisions of the IT Act. The accused is being brought to Gorakhpur on transit remand and will be presented before the court.
Ravi Kishan Forgives the Accused
Reacting to the arrest, Ravi Kishan wrote on social media, “Mistakes happen. I have forgiven my Punjabi brother. Let’s speak with love from now on.” Police have clarified that the threat was not part of any organised conspiracy, but rather a drunken act of recklessness.
