Ranchi, Jan.20: Attracting people with his lavish lifestyle and high return financial scheme, a man duped money to the tune of crores from over 100 residents of Jharkhand capital in four months.
The man, who had identified himself as Rohit Vajpayee, had taken a rented house four months ago at Bandhu Nagar, Birsa Chowk near Birsa Munda Airport and stayed with his wife posing as a custom officer, to commit the fraud.
“Initially he doubled some of the money deposits. When he became popular as a man having the capacity to double money in a short time, hundreds of investors residing in his locality and other parts of the city got attracted towards him and deposited money in tune of crores. After heavy collection the man left his rented house and switched his mobile phone off,” a victim said.
Officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur police station, A.K.Singh, is yet to get information in this regard though a section of vernacular media reported the incident of fraud and the matter is expected to reach before the police any moment.
A locality resident said the man had organised a party on December 31 and had kept bouncers and gunmen around him while dancing on the beat of DJ to pretend to be a man of high income.
“As many as 150 guests were present at the party. Once they get attracted, the work of the fraud becomes easier,” the resident said.
