Dhanbad, Dec 18: A customer in Dhanbad ordered a new smartphone through the Flipkart shopping app, but received a mobile-sized piece of stone in the delivery packet.
The incident happened with railway contractor Aman Kumar Mahto, a resident of remote Lathtand village under Rajganj police station, around 25 km away from the district headquarters.
Mahto had booked a mobile of MI Company’s Redmi Pro Note 8 model through Flipkart last week. He paid Rs 13,000 as online payment in advance for the phone.
When he received the parcel on Friday afternoon (December 17), a piece of stone came out from the packed parcel in place of the ordered Redmi mobile.
Rattled by the fraud, the irate villagers made the delivery boy captive and demanded the return of Aman’s advance payment. The delivery boy notified the local office of the company’s officers about the incident. Two employees of Flipkart arrived and paid the amount. The villagers then released the delivery boy in the evening after receiving Rs 13,000 from Flipkart executives.
The victim Aman Kumar Mahto said that he was out of the house when the delivery boy delivered the parcel. On the basis of OTP on mobile, his friends received the parcel and opened the packet in presence of the delivery boy. They were surprised to find a stone piece in place of the mobile.
“I had brought several items online through Flipkart in the past but never became a victim of such a fraud ever,” said Aman.
Rajganj police station officer when contacted said that he had no information about this cheating as neither the customer nor the delivery boy has lodged a complaint in this regard.
