New Delhi, July 3: The IndiGo airline’s operations were affected nationwide, and several of its flights experienced delays as a result of a crew member shortage. According to information provided by the Union Aviation Ministry, only 45% of IndiGo flights were able to depart on schedule on Saturday.

According to Press Trust of India, a sizable number of crew members used their sick days to participate in an Air India recruitment drive.

“The phase-2 of Air India’s recruitment drive was conducted on Saturday and majority of IndiGo’s cabin crew members who took sick leave went for it,” an industry official told the news agency.

The airline has been contacted for an explanation by the aviation watchdog, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGCA, regarding the significant delays.

“Directorate General of Civil Aviation has taken strong cognizance against IndiGo and sought a clarification/ explanation behind the massive flight delays nationwide,” a DGCA official told news agency ANI.

Notably every day, the low-cost airline offers more than 1600 local and international flights.
