Daltonganj, Aug 24: Six vehicles were set afire by the Maoists at the junction of Chhaterpur Hussainabad in Palamu on Wednesday evening under the Chhaterpur police station area.

The burnt vehicles included two Hywas, two tractors, one bike and one grader. There was no loss of life except for the thrashing of two construction site people, Bablu Patel and Vijay Yadav, by the Maoists. The Maoists did not leave behind any leaflets.

Nitesh’s squad is suspected of arsoning. His squad is small and has less than a dozen members of which only four or five of them are armed and the rest of them carry lathis. Nothing could be as poor for the Maoists to now carry lathis, said police sources.

The fall of their bastion Burha Pahar has rendered them weak in terms of men and machines but the Maoists are still in a position to raid and escape.

Sources said the construction work at the site was about to be over in a day or two.

The construction company just did not inform the Chhaterpur police of its work coming to an end there and here this lack of communication proved too bad.

The Maoists too had this information that the construction company would be packing up at this site soon and they just raided the site on Wednesday and torched six vehicles.

SDPO Chhaterpur Ajay Kumar said the construction company ought to have informed the Chhaterpur police about its closing of work at this junction.

There is a reason behind it. The Maoists strike at the site in the very beginning or they raid the site where the construction is going to be wound up. It’s the Maoists’ own way of bringing construction companies to their knees.

On both occasions police provide the cover. Here the company just did not inform the police of the work coming to an end in a day or two. The Maoists making no mistake and not losing this void of information struck too hard by setting afire six vehicles.
