Ranchi: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has once again raised sharp questions over the Jharkhand government’s handling of the DGP appointment, insisting that a legally valid police chief must be appointed within the timeline set by the Supreme Court.

SC Order and UPSC Panel Must Be Followed

Marandi said the Supreme Court’s direction has made it clear that under the Prakash Singh judgment, the DGP must be appointed within one month only from the UPSC-approved panel. He added that the Jharkhand government must now follow the lawful procedure without exceptions.

Marandi Cites Long Legal Battle Against “Irregularities”

He claimed he has fought a prolonged legal battle against alleged irregularities and arbitrary actions in DGP appointments, and said the latest developments show the outcome of that struggle.

Comments on Current Acting DGP

Marandi said that even though he has considered the current DGP, Tadasa Mishra, as a capable and relatively better officer, she must respect the law and the dignity of the post in the present situation.

Call for Voluntary Exit Before Government Action

He stated that if the government proceeds under the Supreme Court order, the concerned officer should step down on moral grounds even before official action begins. He questioned why an officer who remained away from major controversies during service would allow her career record to be affected by such a dispute.

Further Legal Action Planned

Marandi said his fight is not over. He warned that he will explore legal options from the High Court to the Supreme Court to seek recovery of salary and benefits drawn by officials allegedly appointed unlawfully as DGP, review the legal validity of decisions taken during their tenure, and demand investigation into their assets.
