New Delhi, Jan 21: Antivirals and monoclonal antibodies are not suggested for people under the age of 18 years old, regardless of the severity of Covid infection, and if steroids are used, they should be tapered over 10 to 14 days, depending to clinical improvement, according to the health ministry.
The health ministry also stated in the ‘Revised Comprehensive Guidelines for Management of COVID-19 in Children and Adolescents (below 18 years)’ that masks are not advised for children aged five and under.
It can be used by children aged 6 to 11 years old, depending on their ability to utilise a mask securely and appropriately under the direct supervision of their parents.
Under the same conditions as adults, children aged 12 and up should wear a mask, according to the ministry.
A group of experts evaluated the rules in light of the current outbreak, which is mostly due to the Omicron form of the coronavirus, which is also a variant of concern.
Based on evidence from other nations, the sickness induced by the Omicron form appears to be milder. However, as the current wave evolves, the ministry advises keeping a close eye on it.
