Ranchi, Aug 24: Illegal mining is going on in Jharkhand bypassing the rules and regulations. The latest example has come to the fore when one Gaurav Singh filed an intervener petition alleging Hindalco of carrying out mining activities in a forest area in Kathotia.

Singh filed the petition after he made the district administration aware of the situation. He has filed relevant documents and photographs to support his allegation and asked the high court to intervene in the matter.

According to Gaurav Singh, in the past, the Jharkhand High Court, while hearing the writ filed by the people displaced due to the beginning of mining activity, had passed an order that no mining work would be done on forest land but the same is not being followed.

According to the petition, Hindalco has acquired a mining lease on about 387.93 hectares of land out of which, 139.34 hectares of land have been recorded in the last survey as forest land. According to the rules, it is mandatory to take forest clearance for mining on such land but the same has not been taken.
