Chennai, Tamil Nadu – Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder of K Armstrong, the party’s Tamil Nadu president, who was brutally hacked to death in Chennai on Friday.
During her visit to Chennai, Mayawati paid tribute to Armstrong, 52, at a private school in Perambur, where she placed a wreath before his body. Expressing her grief, she emphasized that the current suspects in custody are not the true perpetrators and insisted that Chief Minister MK Stalin transfer the investigation to the central agency to ensure justice.
“The way Armstrong was killed by a group of assailants late in the evening shows a complete breakdown of law and order in Tamil Nadu,” Mayawati said. “The real culprits have not been apprehended. We urge CM Stalin to transfer the probe to the CBI immediately to ensure justice for Armstrong and to restore faith in the legal system.”
Mayawati, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, highlighted the widespread fear among Dalits in Tamil Nadu following Armstrong’s murder and urged the Chief Minister to take measures to protect them.
Despite the severity of the situation, Mayawati urged BSP workers to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands. She reassured them that the party is taking the matter seriously and is committed to seeking justice through proper channels.
The BSP leader’s demand for a CBI probe underscores her lack of confidence in the state government’s ability to handle the investigation impartially. Her call for justice reflects the party’s determination to ensure that the true culprits are brought to book and that such incidents do not recur.
The murder of K Armstrong has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Tamil Nadu, raising questions about the state’s law and order situation and the safety of political leaders.
