New Delhi, April 9: The Delhi mayoral election will take place on April 26, according to AAP spokesperson and MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj. He also made fun of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, claiming that if the LG’s office followed the norms and regulations, the elections might be conducted peacefully.
“It is necessary to conduct the fresh mayoral election in April. The date for the mayoral election has been fixed for April 26. Elections can be held in a peaceful manner if the rules and regulations are followed by the LG office. Last time, it was unfortunate, the L-G made a protem mayor which led to a ruckus. An attempt was made to use aldermen to vote, going against the Constitution, for which the LG was pulled up by the Supreme Court,” said Saurabh Bhardwaj, Urban Development Minister, Government of Delhi and nominated member of MCD.
According to reports cited by PTI, incumbent Shelly Oberoi would remain in charge of the top position till a new mayor is chosen. On February 22, Oberoi, an AAP councilor, defeated BJP contender Rekha Gupta by a margin of 34 votes to win the election for mayor of Delhi.
The Civic Center, the seat of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, served as the polling location. (MCD).Since the preceding elections were postponed due to a commotion about the voting powers being granted to nominated members, Delhi had the mayor in the fourth try.
After the fiscal year is through, the city elects a new mayor. Five one-year terms are available for the position of mayor in the nation’s capital, with the first year reserved for women, the second for the open category, the third for the reserved category, and the last two terms again available to the open category.
