Dhanbad, Sept 7: While the National Medical Commission (NMC) is geared up to start the third round of counselling for admission in the 2023 session, seven central government nominee seats out of 10 are still vacant in the five medical colleges of Jharkhand.
Till date, only three admissions, two at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribagh and one at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur have been taken under the central government nominee seats.
Two MBBS seats are reserved for the central government nominees in each medical college of the state for the Ministry of Home, Defence and the states like Meghalaya, Nagaland that have no medical institution.
No central government nominee has appeared for admission at the three other institutions of Jharkhand which include Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical Colleges Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka and Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu so far.
However, the medical education wing director of Jharkhand health department Dr SK Singh said that there is no fixed date for admission for the central government nominees. As per NMC guidelines, all admissions in medical colleges in the country have to be completed before September 30. The seats of central nominees too would be filled up timely.
“Before the last date of admission on central nominee seats, it would be completed in all medical colleges of the state,” he said
Dr SK Singh, who is also the principal of SBMCH, Hazaribagh, said that two central government nominees who have taken admission in his institution, have come from the defence.
The third student of the central government nominee has taken admission at MGMMCH Jamshedpur. Dr KN Singh, principal of the college said the lone student has come from Nagaland. “ One seat of the central nominee is still vacant,” he said.
PJMCH principal Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad admission in-charge Dr Ganesh Kumar and MMCH Palamu admission in-charge Dr Atul Prakash, when contacted, said that both seats of the central government nominees are still vacant.
“September 30 is the last date of admission. Today is September 7, so we expect selected nominees would take admission within the scheduled time,” said Dr Ganesh Kumar.
