Former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has cautioned Team India against taking England lightly in the T20 World Cup semifinal, despite backing India and South Africa to reach the final.
England A Dangerous Side Despite Patchy Campaign
McGrath said England remain a formidable opponent capable of turning the game on its day. While noting that England had a mixed tournament and were fortunate in a few close encounters, he stressed that such wins could boost their confidence ahead of the knockout clash.
He added that if India continue playing the way they have throughout the tournament, they should advance. However, he emphasized that England’s unpredictability makes them a threat in high-pressure matches.
McGrath predicted a final between India and South Africa, praising South Africa’s focus on T20 cricket and their balanced squad with strong hitters and an effective bowling attack.
Bumrah Key In Knockouts
Highlighting India’s bowling strength, McGrath described Jasprit Bumrah as a “big-game player” who thrives under pressure. He also lauded Arshdeep Singh for his consistent performances, calling him one of India’s standout bowlers in the tournament.
According to McGrath, the toss and strategic decisions will play a crucial role in the semifinal, but he expressed complete faith in Bumrah’s ability to deliver in decisive moments.
Australia’s Early Exit Not A Surprise
McGrath admitted he had doubts about Australia’s prospects even before the tournament began. He said he expected them to reach the Super 8 stage but did not foresee a deep run. Australia’s early exit, he remarked, was disappointing but not entirely unexpected.
As India gear up for the high-stakes semifinal, all eyes will be on whether they can maintain momentum and secure a place in the T20 World Cup final.
