New Delhi, Jan 17: Hardik Singh, an Indian midfielder, will have an MRI on Tuesday in Bhubaneswar to determine the severity of his hamstring injury.

On January 15, Hardik was injured playing for India in Pool D of the 2023 Hockey World Cup against England.

The Indian management will decide if he can play in India’s upcoming encounter against Wales on January 19 based on the results of the MRI.

In the last seconds of the fourth quarter, Hardik went down holding his right hamstring and had to be assisted off the field. In India’s 2-0 victory over Spain in the tournament’s opening game on Friday, the 24-year-old scored a goal.

India has not yet asked the FIH to replace it.

Earlier, India coach Graham Reid said, “It looked really bad when he came off. I have been updated that it’s not as bad as we originally thought. We will have an update on that.”
