New Delhi, April 6: The data presented in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) indicated a lowering trend in terrorist occurrences in Jammu and Kashmir, with a number showing a drop of over 50% in these cases from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021.

The data was presented to the Upper House through a written reply by Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, who stated that “the government has a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and there has been a substantial decline in terrorist attacks from 417 in 2018 to 255 in 2019, 244 in 2020, and 229 in 2021.”

The Minister also presented data showing that terrorists killed 87 civilians and 99 security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir between August 5, 2019, and November 20, 2021, compared to 177 civilians and 406 security personnel killed between May 2014 and August 2019.

Rai went on to say that a strong security and intelligence system is in place to avoid terrorist attacks. “Also being carried out are day and night area dominance, round-the-clock checking at Nakas, patrols, and preemptive actions against terrorists.”

The Minister`s response came in answer to a query about the number of civilians and security personnel murdered by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir between August 2019 and November 2021.
