Daltonganj, Dec 5: A team of elephant experts and handlers from Midnapore, West Bengal has arrived at Palamu tiger reserve, to rescue and treat the limping elephant.
“We have brought this team from Midnapore for our ailing elephant. The team arrived post midnight on Sunday. We are extremely concerned about its well being. We can’t make any guess about what or how this elephant has started limping,” said Kumar Ashutosh, Field director and chief conservator of forest tiger reserve Palamu.
“Trackers, forest guards and other personnel have been asked to keep a tab on this elephant,” he added.
“We have been following one elephant which is limping over the last couple of weeks. The elephant is most seen in the forest of Maromar which is an identified area,” said Mukesh Kumar, Deputy Director South division of the Palamu Tiger reserve.
“The limping elephant is in good health as its poop does not suggest any petulant stomach,” added Mukesh Kumar.
Sources said the Midnapore team is equipped with T guns, darts and other allied things that matter in the treatment of the wild elephant.
“Sedating an elephant that too an adult one requires sensitivity and expertise both,” said wild life knowers.
Both the Field director and deputy director said that, we believe the Midnapore team will succeed in getting our limping elephant treated.
