Chatra, July 25: The body of 40-year-old Shanti Devi, wife of Gyanu Yadav who went missing on Monday, was today seen floating in a check dam. She was a  resident of Kashi Kewal village of Auru Panchayat of Hunterganj block.  On getting information, police reached there and recovered the body from the check dam located in the Rehar area.

Relatives said Shanti had gone to the forest to graze buffaloes on Monday. But she didn’t return home. A search was launched but she was not found. Later, the police were informed.

This afternoon, villagers spotted a body floating in the check dam. They identified her as Shanti. Her relatives were informed, who reached there immediately and confirmed that the body was of Shanti.

On getting information, police inspector Pramod Pandey and SI Sushil Tudu of Huntergunj police station reached the spot along with the force and took information related to the incident. They seized the body and sent it to Chatra Sadar Hospital for postmortem.

Relatives said Shanti is survived by two sons and a daughter. Her husband works in Delhi and was informed about the incident. Villagers suspected that after the killing, her body was thrown into the check dam. Pandey said police will wait for the postmortem report to know the exact reason behind her death. “We have also started our probe to know whether this is a case of drowning or something else,” police officials added.
