Mumbai, Dec 28: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Hindu extremist Raj Thackeray, has warned cinema hall owners not to screen the Pakistani film ‘The Legend of Maula Jat’, which is up for release in Maharashtra.
MNS has sent letters to various cinema establishments, including Zee Studios, Movietime Cinema, August Entertainment and Tilak Entertainment, expressing strong opposition to the proposed release.
“It has come to our attention that the film “The Legend of Maula Jat,” produced in Pakistan and starring Pakistani actors, is being deliberately planned to be released in Maharashtra soon,” said the letter.
“We do not need to point out how Pakistan is constantly carrying out anti-Indian terrorist activities. Many of our soldiers, police forces, as well as citizens, have been killed in these terrorist actions. Although we have been protesting against it from time to time, we are urging you not to release this Pakistani film in Maharashtra,” it added.
As per information, the film is expected to be released on December 30, making it the first Pakistani film to be released in India in a decade.
The last Pakistani film released in India was ‘Bol’ starring Mahira Khan in 2011. Before that was ‘Ramchand Pakistani’ starring Nandita Das and Rashid Farooqi in 2008. ‘Khuda Kay Liye’, which included Fawad in the ensemble cast alongside Naseeruddin Shah, came in 2007.
