Daltonganj, Jan 22: Electricity consumers attacked one junior engineer Birendra Kumar Chowdhury at Kuchila village under the Chhipadohar police station in Latehar district on Friday evening.
Junior engineer Chowdhury speaking to lagatar24.com said today he has sustained fracture in his right thumb and his left wrist is also highly sprained making him fear the wrist may have hair cracked.
The JE was on a raid against theft of electricity as well as for recovery of the pending billls.
“Friday, January 21, was the raid day as declared by the Jharkhand state electricity board. We try to recover revenue as well on the raid day, ” he reiterated.
Chowdhury said he and his team detected the theft of the electricity in the operation of the motor pump for the irrigation of the field there at Kuchila.
Sources said the electricity official objected to the theft and this attack was sudden and ferocious.
According to Chowdhury, soon a mob gathered there and attacked him with bamboo.
He was accompanied by around half a dozen personnel of the electricity office. All ran for safety of life, said the junior engineer.
Officer in charge of the Chhipadohar police station Biswajeet Tiwary said the junior engineer has lodged an FIR. It has been instituted on Friday, January 21 itself with the Chhipadohar police station.
The JE has named 3 accused who are Nagender Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Permode Yadav. The first two are brothers.
Police officer Tiwary said about two weeks ago, the electricity officials had raided the house of one late Raj Kumar Yadav of Kuchila village and this household was slapped with a penalty of Rs. 20,000 for illegal and unlawful consumption of the electricity.
This family on Friday reacted violently and hurt a government servant on duty.
Police officer Tiwary said section 353 of the IPC has been invoked against the three named accused.
Section 353 of the IPC is a serious section which deals with assault or criminal force used to deter a government servant from discharge of his duty.
“This Saturday morning, we have come to village Kuchila where these three named accused have fled from their houses. They will be caught soon, ” Tiwary said.
