Ranchi, Dec.17: A youth, Chota Anwar sustained injuries after a mob attacked him at Garha Toli in Kokar under the Sadar police station area.

The incident took place after a section of youths turned up in the said locality and started passing lewd remarks on girls and women and locality residents took strong exception to this.

“When united locality residents raised an objection, one of the youths opened fire. Agitated residents snatched his arms and beat another youth black and blue,” a locality resident said.

Another said: “The youths had apparently come to capture land. One of them opened fire when they resisted.”

Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Shyam Kishore Mahto confirmed the incident saying an FIR is yet to be registered in this connection.

“Reason behind the incident is not clear so far. The primary investigation suggested the reason behind the incident is not eve-teasing. The matter of some land dispute is involved. We are waiting for someone to come with a written complaint in the matter to probe further,” OC Mahto said.

Asked whether the bullet injured anyone, OC Mahto said: “The bullet did not injure anyone. However, Anwar sustained serious head injuries in the attack and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.”
