Jamshedpur, Aug 18:  IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre withdrew a heavy rain alert as the monsoon becomes weak over Jharkhand.

The western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level was running close to the foothills of the Himalayas and its eastern end was passing through Barabanki, Dehri, Digha and thence southeastwards to the northwest Bay of Bengal.

Weathermen predicted light to moderate rain over the state during the next 72 hours.

The cyclonic circulation over the northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal today lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the neighbourhood extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same area.

An east-west trough runs roughly along Long. 81°E to the north of Lat. 24°N between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level.

Light to moderate rain was observed at many places while heavy rain also occurred at isolated places over the state during the past 24- hours.

With actual rainfall of 424 mm, Jharkhand was still facing a rain deficit of 37 per cent. The normal rainfall so far should have been 678 mm.
