Jamshedpur, Dec 10: Almost all the 700-odd ancillary units of Tata Motors at Adityapur industrial area will down shutters for three days between December 13 and 15 being a block closure in Tata Motors.
Officials at Adityapur Small Industries Association ( ASIA ) said that in absence of a work order from Tata Motors the ancillary units will remain closed for those three days of block closure.
Notably, the Jamshedpur plant of Tata Motors will shut down for three days from December 13 amid an ongoing slump in the auto sector with the company deciding to use the “block closure” to conduct routine maintenance.
Such a block closure will take place within a fortnight.
An internal circular in this regard was issued by the automobile major’s Jamshedpur plant head Vishal Badshah.
During the block closure production of heavy commercial vehicles — trucks, trailers, tippers and other multi-axle vehicles — will come to a grinding halt at the Jamshedpur plant.
The Jamshedpur plant underwent a similar block closure for three days between November 29 and December 1.
Frequent block closures are again affecting the ancillary units which were set to recover from the huge losses which they incurred during last year’s series of lockdowns because of the pandemic.
Telco Workers’ Union sources revealed that the company has plans to produce around 5,000 heavy vehicles in December.
As news of the block closure spread, the mood turned dismal at Adityapur industrial area.
Santosh Khetan, a senior functionary of ASIA said around 700 firms that manufacture components directly or indirectly for Tata Motors will be affected by the block closure.
An ancillary owner said, ” We have decided to suspend the two shifts during the block closure. We will carry out necessary maintenance activities during that period. ”
