Dhanbad, Oct 19: Two kids drowned when a mother along with her four minor children jumped into a pond in Karajniyatand area under Jayanagar police station of Koderma district late in the evening on Sunday.

Jaynagar police station officer-in-charge Md. Abdullah informed that the incident occurred around 5.30 pm. The woman has been identified as Tabassum (35), a resident of Gopalidih. The mother and her two children were rescued in the operation while two of her other daughters died and their bodies were fished out late in the night.

The first body identified as Taniya (3) was fished out at 7 pm while another body of Saniya (13) was recovered at around 11 pm.

“Preliminary investigation indicates family feud as the reason behind this drastic step by the woman who tried to commit suicide along with her children,” said the police station officer-in-charge today. The husband of the woman is a driver by profession.

Police officials said that reportedly, after a heated argument in the family, Tabassum along with her four children went out of the house and jumped into a pond in Karajniyatand. Her mother-in-law who followed them raised an alarm as they jumped in the water. Local residents started the rescue operation immediately. Tabassum and her two children were fished out immediately.  Later, the body of Taniya was also found.

After some time, Jayanagar police personnel under officer-in-charge Abdullah reached the spot and launched the rescue operation in which Saniya’s body was found after three hours of the operation.
