Daltonganj, May 30: A woman and her son died in a head-on collision between their bike and an 18-wheel truck on NH 75 at Jorkat, barely seven kilometres away from Daltonganj on Monday.
The police officer in charge of Sadar thana Kamlesh Kumar said the two victims have been identified as Parmilla Devi (45) and her 22-year-old son Sunil Sao.
The duo was on a bike and coming from Latehar for Ramgarh in Palamu district this morning when an 18-wheel truck hit the bike from the front. The two died on the spot.
The police officer said the truck has been seized and brought to the Sadar police station.
The driver of the truck, however, managed to flee. He fled with the truck’s key, but police managed to start its engine with the help of some other drivers’ keys.
Sub Divisional Police Officer Surjit Kumar said this police officer and his posse of force were deployed on the NH 75 falling in the Palamu district as Governor Ramesh Bais was on his return journey from Betla to the Raj Bhawan in Ranchi. He had arrived in Latehar on Sunday and had spent his night at Betla.
The SDPO said despite the accident on the NH 75, the traffic was maintained properly because of the presence of the police force.
