New Delhi, March 29: In response to rumours that MS Dhoni might retire from the Indian Premier League after IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said that the CSK captain is fit enough to compete for another two or three seasons.
“I’ve been hearing for the last 2-3 years that this is going to be MS Dhoni’s last season. I think he is fit enough to play a few more seasons,” Rohit said in MI’s pre-season press conference.
The Mumbai Indians conducted a preseason news conference on Wednesday on their Instagram page, less than a week before their first game. Coach Mark Boucher and captain Rohit Sharma were there.
Dhoni continues to play an important role for the Chennai franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and he has made a substantial contribution to the team’s accomplishments over the years. He has played in 234 games and 4978 runs since the 2008 tournament’s debut, helping his side win four IPL championships.
MS Dhoni’s final season playing in the Indian Premier League might be in 2023. The illustrious skipper made a hint in the last campaign that he intended to bid the supporters farewell by attending the 2023 edition of the competition around the nation. Chennai tried to start their transition away from Dhoni last season by handing over the captaincy, but they utterly flopped in the middle of the competition.
In the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons, CSK did not play at Chepauk Stadium because to the Covid-19 pandemic. A portion of the 2021 season and all of the 2020 season were played in the UAE, however the 2022 season was mostly played in Mumbai and Pune.
