Daltonganj, Jan 20: The urban development and housing department of Jharkhand has sanctioned an urban water supply scheme for Medininagar (Daltonganj).

Sources said the urban development and housing department secretary Vinay Choubey played a very major role in getting the urban water supply through for Medininagar.

BJP MP V D Ram today held a press conference and thanked the state government for launching the multi core urban water supply here which was lying in limbo over the years.

The MP said the scheme is worth more than Rs. 161 crores and the Asian Development Bank will sponsor it.

The urban water supply scheme is to be readied within two years from the date of start.

He said tender would be floated soon and then after all due procedures, this urban water scheme will take off here.

The urban water development scheme will have a water treatment plant to maintain the quality of the potable water. Water will come from the rain fed river the Koyal.

The MP said an infiltration gallery will be made in the bed of the river Koyal along with the intake wells. Four elevated storage water reservoirs will also be built.

To a question that since water will be taken from the river Koyal which goes a total dry in the summer so how feasible and lasting will be this multi core urban water supply here, the MP said this issue has been well taken care of by the concerned authorities.

This urban water supply scheme is for 20 years or so keeping in view the expansion of the population.

At present, the Medininagar corporation has more than 1,20,000 households where water is supplied at the rate of 135 litres a day per household, this urban water supply scheme is going to be beneficial and useful.

“A company SMS Paryavaran was given the work of this urban water supply scheme but the company dragged its feet leading to its black listing by the state government,” said the MP.

The fiasco of the company shelved the phase 2 urban water supply scheme here for four years.

Mayor Aruna Shankar, district president of the BJP Vijayanand Pathak and senior BJP leader Vijay Ojha etc were present in the press conference of the MP V D Ram.
