Collapse Hit Auto and Car on Busy Road
The incident took place around 12:20 pm on LBS Road near the Johnson & Johnson Company. Fire officials said a concrete piece measuring roughly 6 feet by 4 feet fell onto a moving autorickshaw and a Skoda car, triggering panic in the area.
Victims and Medical Condition
All injured were rushed to Upasana Multispeciality Hospital. Ramdhan Yadav was declared brought dead. Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45) remains in critical condition in the ICU, while Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52) and Deepa Ruhiya (40) are reported to be stable.
Rescue Operations and Traffic Disruption
Fire brigade teams, police personnel, metro staff, ward officials, and ambulance services reached the spot and launched rescue operations. The area was cordoned off and traffic on the busy LBS Road stretch was disrupted for some time.
Political Reactions and Negligence Concerns
Mulund MLA Mihir Kotecha demanded an inquiry and strict action against the contractor and responsible officials. Mayor Ritu Tawde said the parapet segment had reportedly been installed just a day earlier and the area should have been barricaded, indicating possible negligence.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray also criticised the government over alleged safety lapses at infrastructure sites and questioned whether the contractor would be blacklisted.
Probe Ordered, Contractor Details Shared
Officials said the work falls under Package CA-10 and is being executed by contractor M/s Rajv-Milan, with project management consultancy by the DB-Hill-LBG consortium. A detailed probe has been initiated to determine the cause of the collapse.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered an investigation and announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the family of the deceased.
