New Delhi, Feb 2: A Mumbai metropolitan magistrate court directed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to appear in court on March 2, 2022, after Mumbai BJP unit secretary Vivekanand Gupta filed a complaint against her, alleging that she insulted the National Anthem by standing up midway through it during a press conference in Mumbai.
Mamata allegedly disrespected the national anthem by getting up midway through it during a news conference in Mumbai, according to a video that went viral following the press meeting.
According to a report after the incident, a Mumbai BJP leader filed a complaint against Mamata in the 25th Court, Mazgaon at Sewree, under section 3 of the Prevention of Insult to National Honor Act 1971, for “showing utter disrespect to the national anthem” by allegedly singing it while in a sitting position and then “abruptly stopping after 4 or 5 verses.”
She sung the national anthem at a news conference in Mumbai, but paused halfway through and ended by saying, “Jai Maharashtra.”
