Mumbai, April 25 : Former Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar was detained on Monday in connection with an alleged attack on former Lok Sabha MP Kirit Somaiya.

Somaiya claimed on April 23 that he was injured in a suspected Shiv Sena stone-pelting incident while he was leaving Mumbai’s Khar police station.

Somaiya had gone to the police station to visit independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana, who had been arrested for reciting the Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena head Uddhav Thackeray’s ‘Matoshree’ mansion. The Shiv Sena cadres were enraged by this.

“Heavy stone-throwing at Khar Police Station by Shiv Sena goondas (goons), my car window glass broken, I am injured, rushing to Bandra police station,” Somaiya said in a series of Twitter posts.

Dilip Walse-Patil, the Maharashtra Home Minister, confirmed the attack on the former Lok Sabha MP on Sunday. The incidence of stone-pelting occurred, according to the Minister, and police will take appropriate measures against those responsible.
