Kolkata: It is reported that the Calcutta High Court has imposed a fine of five lakh rupees on Mamta Banerjee. High Court Justice Kaushik Chanda, who is hearing the Nandigram case, has imposed this fine on Mamta Banerjee, finding the allegations against her baseless. Also, Justice Chanda has distanced himself from this case. At the same time, the court commented that Mamata Banerjee has tried to tarnish the image of the judiciary.

Justice Chanda is seen with BJP leaders

Let us inform that while filing the petition, it was said on behalf of Mamta Banerjee that the alleged photo of Justice Chanda has come to the fore, in which he is seen with BJP leaders. In such a situation, he should get out of this case. Justice Kaushik Chanda observed that pecuniary interest does not arise in this case, it is absurd to suggest that a judge who has affiliation with a political party for a case may be biased, because of the point of view of the plaintiff, to a judge. Cannot be seen as biased.

Justice Kaushik Chanda said that I have no personal inclination to hear the petitioner’s case, I have no hesitation in raising the matter, it is my constitutional duty to hear the matter entrusted to me by the Chief Justice. Nothing was mentioned to change.

Attempted to influence the decision

Justice Kaushik Chanda said, during the hearing, I asked Abhishek Manu Singhvi why it was not told in the court earlier, he (Singhvi) said that it was not considered appropriate, my picture with BJP leaders was mentioned during the hearing, A deliberate and complete attempt was made to influence my decision even before the hearing of the matter.

Justice Kaushik Chanda, dismissing all the charges against him, recused himself from the case (Nandigram election case) and now the Chief Justice will decide in which court the matter will go.

Mamta lost in Nandigram seat to BJP’s Shubhendu Adhikari

On May 2, the results of the assembly elections held in 4 states and one union territory of the country were declared. TMC had won in Bengal, but Mamata lost the Nandigram seat to BJP’s Shubhendu Adhikari by 1956 votes. Mamata had demanded a recount of votes, which the Election Commission did not agree to.

The case was being heard by the bench of Justice Kaushik Chanda.

Mamta filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court against the election results. In this, he demanded the cancellation of the election, accusing Shubhendu Adhikari of bribery, corruption and seeking votes on the basis of religion. The hearing of this case was being done by the bench of Justice Kaushik Chanda. On this, Mamta Banerjee had demanded to separate him from the case. He said that Kaushik Chanda had relations with the BJP. On his demand, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
