New Delhi, June 22: The acting head of the Congress Sonia Gandhi wrote to the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday to request a postponement of her appearance for a few weeks as she recovers fully from a lung infection and Covid-19.
On June 23, the ED had called the head of Congress to an interview about a money laundering investigation involving the National Herald newspaper.
Gandhi originally had a June 8 appearance before the Enforcement Directorate set, but she requested an extension from the investigation department due to her Covid infection. The organisation subsequently sent her a new summons and requested that she appear before it on June 23.
The ED has questioned her son and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the money laundering case for more than 50 hours in five days. On Monday, he was interrogated for more than ten hours.
The Congress has charged the Centre with utilising investigative agencies improperly to target opposition figures and has dubbed the entire incident a “political vendetta.”
