National Jr Thang-Ta: Jharkhand girls bag two medals

Dhanbad, Oct 6: Jharkhand girls, Samridhi Kumari and Pragati Priya, bagged silver and bronze medals respectively in the 29th National Junior Thang-Ta Championship, which concluded in the Multipurpose Indoor Hall of Polo Ground, Srinagar on Thursday evening.

The report reaching here said Samridhi Kumari won the silver medal in the 65 kg weight category event while Pragati Priya displaying her outstanding technique bagged bronze in the 44 kg weight category.

Jharkhand Thang- Ta president Ranjit Kesri, who has gone to Srinagar as the chief coach of the team, said that Samridhi defeated the host state (Jammu and Kashmir)  player in the quarter-final and Assam player in the semifinal before losing to Haryana rival in the final by a whisker.

In the 44 kg weight category, Pragati Priya also reached the semifinal and was able to get a bronze. In the closing ceremony Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, advisor to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, was the chief guest and he gave away medals to winners.

Both Samridhi Kumari and Pragati Priya belong to the Dhanbad district. Chief coach Ranjit Kesri expressed satisfaction with the performance of players.
