Nadaun, Oct.4: The All India River Rafting Marathon Series has started in Nadaun in Himachal Pradesh. This five-day-long series is being organized in association with Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department, Indian Rafting Foundation and District Administration. The competition will run from October 4 to 8.
Forest and Youth Services & Sports Minister, Rakesh Pathania, inaugurated the series on the banks of river Beas near Nadaun on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner Debashweta Banik informed that 28 teams of men and women from all over the country are participating in the marathon series being organized for the first time.
He also mentioned that rafting will be done on a 10-kilometer route from Nadaun port to Dehra during the marathon series. The opportunity to organise such a prestigious and internationally recognised championship is a source of pride for Nadaun, not just in the Hamirpur district, but for the entire state. This competition will promote adventure sports and tourism in Nadaun and all over Himachal Pradesh.
Rakesh Pathania said that this competition has highlighted Nadaun on the national map. In the near future, an attempt will be made in Himachal to arrange an Asia-level competition.
On the insistence of Vijay Agnihotri, a former MLA and Vice Chairman of HRTC, Pathania said that the state government will work on an 8-crore proposal to promote river rafting in Nadaun. This proposal will be presented in front of Central Minister Anurag Thakur and efforts will be made at the earliest to get it approved.
