Ranchi, July 22: Mairaj Ahmed Khan, who won gold in the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Shooting Championship in Changwon, South Korea, and brought honour to the country, credited prominent industrialist Naveen Jindal as his inspiration and he could only bring this glory to the nation with his cooperation. Mairaj Khan was the first Indian to win this competition.
Mairaj Khan, who is from Khurja in the Uttar Pradesh region of Bulandshahr, has been competing in shooting events since 1998. He qualified for the Rio Olympics in September 2015 by being the first Indian to win the shotgun skeet competition at Lonato, Italy.
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the host for the 2016 Olympics, he took home a silver medal in the ISSF World Cup Shooting. He then gave the Olympics a shot. Following that, he took part in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
In the skeet shooting event at the ISSF World Cup, which ended on July 21 in Changwon, South Korea, he became the first Indian to take home a gold medal. He is now ranked 10th overall and 6th in Asia. He has received numerous awards, including gold medals from the South Asian Association, the Asian Championships, the Commonwealth Shooting Championships, and other regional, national, and international competitions.
After the Tokyo Olympics, he said in a chat, “I was deemed retired,” but he didn’t lose heart. At his shooting range in Noida, he met Naveen Jindal. The World Cup was successful as a consequence of his encouragement and assistance in every manner. Jindal congratulated Mairaj Khan for his victory in a tweet he posted.
