Jamshedpur, Jan 4: Former BJP legislator from Manoharpur Gurucharan Nayak escaped unhurt as an armed squad of naxals attacked him during a football tournament in Sonua thana area in West Singhbhum district, about 140 kms away from here this evening.
In the attack, two of his bodyguards were killed, but the legislator succeeded to escape with the support of his third bodyguard.
The naxal attack took place at Jhilrua village about two kms away from the Sonua thana area at about 5.30 pm, just after a football match was over. The BJP legislator had attended the football match as chief guest.
While attacking Nayak, the naxals belonging to the outlawed CPI-Maoist snatched rifles of all the three bodyguards after killing two of them.
According to police, the legislator and the surviving bodyguard had reached to the Sonua thana for safety reason.
Police sources said after getting to know about the naxal attack a police party accompanied by paramilitary forces had rushed to Jhilrua village.
According to sources, a team of senior police officers has also rushed to the spot.
