New Delhi, June 23: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday filed draft charges against Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik in a drug case connected to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Atul Sarpande, a special public prosecutor, reportedly told PTI that the prosecution still maintained charges against each and every accused as laid out in the charge sheet submitted to the court.
He added that the prosecution had asked the court to indict the actress and her brother for ingesting drugs as well as for obtaining and paying for them on behalf of the late actor Rajput.
On Wednesday, the court heard from all the defendants, including Rhea and her brother. In the case, Chakraborty was detained in September 2020. Nearly a month after her arrest, the Bombay High Court granted her bail.
Along with the 29-year-old actress, her brother Showik Chakraborty and a number of other people have been charged in the drug case for allegedly using, possessing, and funding illegal drugs. Currently, most of them are free on bail.
Following the murder of Rajput, who was discovered dead at his apartment in Mumbai Bandra on June 14, 2020, the NCB has been looking into allegations of drug use in the Bollywood and television industries. He was 34.
