New Delhi, Nov 11: Jitendra Awhad, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was detained by the Thane Police on Friday in Vartak Nagar for preventing the showing of a Marathi movie.
Awhad violently stopped the Marathi movie Har Har Mahadev’s showing by beating a person.
“NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad arrested by Vartak Nagar Police in Thane in connection with a protest against the screening of Marathi film ‘Har Har Mahadev’ in a local theatre a few days back,” said Thane Police.
On Monday night, the former minister stirred up controversy by asserting that the movie falsifies Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s history.
After his arrest, his supporters chanted protests in front of the Vartak Nagar police station. Anand Paranjpe, a former MP, was among those who were detained.
