Dhanbad, Nov 9: For the first time, personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will guard the Chhath Ghats during the two-day festival of faith in Dhanbad.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh, after physical assessment of urban area-based main Chhath Ghats of the district, directed to deploy NDRF teams and ensure availability of safety jackets for the protection of devotees.
As per the official record of the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC), there are 80 ponds in the urban area where Chhath festival is celebrated by countless devotees. The massive gathering is seen every year at the city-based ponds.
For the preparation of the festival, DC Sandip Singh along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar, City Superintendent of Police R Ramkumar, Dhanbad Circle Officer (CO) Prasant Kumar Layak and Jharia CO Pramesh Kushwaha, made spot inspection of Rajendra Sarovar Bekarbandh, Pampu Talab and Jharia Raja Talab where devotees in lacs reportedly gather for offering Arghya both the times during the festival.
Besides the deployment of a medical team at each Chhath ghat, the DC also directed to provide proper light arrangement at exit and entry points of the ghats on November 10 and November 11.
“Enforcement team has been asked to ensure implementation of Covid protocol by devotees who would visit at Chhath ghat,” he said.
The district administration has also announced the suspension of traffic movement from Puja Talkies to City Centre road from 2 pm to 9 pm on November 10 and from 3 am to 9.30 am on November 11. Barricades have also been put in several places that lead to Chhath Ghats in the city.
