New Delhi, Oct.27: The Supreme Court will today hear a case filed by the Education Ministry’s National Testing Agency (NTA) challenging the Bombay High Court’s decision to hold NEET 2021, the national-level medical entrance exam, for two candidates again. The petitioners, Vaishanavi Bhopali and Abhishek Shivaji, claimed that in the undergraduate medical entrance exam, they were given question papers and answer sheets with different serial numbers.
In its ruling, the Bombay High Court stated that the petitioners should not suffer as a result of the respondents’ error. The exam should be rescheduled for them, and they should be provided 48 hours’ notice of the date and location of the rescheduled exam.
The NTA’s Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told a bench led by Chief Justice NV Ramana that the results are being suspended according to the High Court’s direction. He begged that the case be heard as soon as possible.
“The declaration of the results of the NEET exam has been stayed the behest of two students. I am requesting the hearing tomorrow,” the law officer submitted before the bench, also comprising Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli.
“We will see,” said the Supreme Court bench on this.
The NTA said in its appeal to the Supreme Court that the NEET test for more than 16 lakh students was held on September 12 and that it has been unable “to declare their results even though the same is ready for declaration” due to the high court’s ruling.
“The subsequent process of admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses i.e. MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, and BHMS Courses will be affected and further delayed due to the delay in the declaration of the NEET (UG) 2021 Result,” it stated.
The NEET 2021 results should be available soon after the Supreme Court rules on the case.
