New Delhi, Dec 28: As doctor’s demand for government action on NEET-PG 2021 counselling is yet to be fulfilled, various resident Doctor’s Associations has called for the suspension of all services including emergency services across the nation from December 29.

Earlier on Monday, Resident doctors clashed with police at South Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after being prevented from marching to the Supreme Court over delayed admissions to medical colleges under the NEET, which is being heard by the high court.

Notably,  admissions counselling is currently on hold. The delay in college admissions following the National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test, or NEET, postgraduate exam has been deemed unacceptable by resident doctors’ groups in Delhi, who have threatened a complete shutdown of medical services.

The nationwide protest was called by the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) and the other doctors association unitedly.

AIIMS Resident Doctor’s Association , Federation of Resident Doctor’s Association (FORDA) and Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) have called for a complete shut down of health services on December 29 in protest.

Notably, the NEET was supposed to take place in December 2020, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s exam was finally held in September. However, counseling for admission to medical schools was delayed, sparking the protest.

FORDA president Manish claimed that resident doctors of a large number of major hospitals on Monday “returned their apron (lab coat) in a symbolic gesture of rejection of services”. “We also tried to march from the campus of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) to Supreme Court, but soon after we had started it, security personnel did not allow us to proceed,” he said.
