New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) counseling, which was initially scheduled for Saturday, amidst allegations of a paper leak. The revised dates for the counseling process will be announced soon.
On Friday, the Supreme Court refused to delay the NEET-UG 2024 counseling despite the ongoing controversy. The court stated that the issue is not an “open and shut” case and issued notices to the NTA, the Centre, and other relevant parties regarding a petition seeking the cancellation of the exam held on May 5 due to alleged irregularities.
A vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti has scheduled the hearing for July 8, alongside other pending petitions addressing the alleged mishandling of the examination.
The petitioners’ counsel requested the court to pause the counseling process for two days, considering that the Supreme Court is set to hear all related pleas on July 8.
The NEET-UG counseling process is extensive, involving multiple rounds including stray vacancy and mop-up rounds. Students who have qualified for the medical entrance exam must register, pay the counseling fees, fill in their choices, lock them, upload the necessary documents, and report in person to the allotted institute.
